LB's peculiar mission

The particular underground nature of explicit pornography in the 1960s and 1970s, and LB's worldwide undertakings both as a fighter against censorship and as the world's first acknowledged King of Porn, made the keeping of archives particularly difficult.

If the scope of LB's activity was to create a sex industry for himself and buy Bentleys, golden Rolexes and villas in Mallorca, he would have established his business in a single place/city/country and would have easily done what all other pornographers do: making money and spend it in futilities such as drugs, expensive restaurants, women, family, children, vacations and so forth.

For a few years LB did most of the above as well, in order to attract high-spirited sex performers and people of advanced culture into the new, unprecedented organization of his own uncensored erotica.

But since the scope of his mission was the liberation of mankind from the yoke of superstition, conformity and censorship, he had both to make money to fuel this demanding endeavors and move his production/distribution business from country to country in order to avoid prosecution and create an international liberation movement.

Dangerous beginnings

In the 10 years between 1962 and 1972, while LB launched most of his enterprises in the still non-unified western European countries from Sweden, to Denmark, West-Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Spain and Portugal the organization of warehouses, offices, studios, printing and film labs was not only complex as with any other international company, but also extremely dangerous.

Pornography was still a felony in ALL of these countries and in ALL other countries of the world, including the USA of course, with sole exception of Denmark and Sweden where legalization of explicit sex occurred for the first time in 1969 and 1970, several years before any other countries. Elsewhere, any porn activities had to be carefully concealed not only from the various police departments but also from pirates and thieves who always try to steal from anything illegal.

Aliases and movements

In the years 1962-to-1969, when LB developed most of the international market of porn under the cover of his diplomatic immunity, he had to use aliases and move offices, machinery and goods quite often in order to avoid being identified.

In 1968, LB had to give up his personal diplomatic documents for his father retired from the diplomatic service. Meanwhile, some European "authorities" began judicial procedures against one of his aliases. These idiotic judicial efforts remained unsuccessful but LB was forced into more movements, secrecy and cover up.

During these hectic moves, some original films and photos were lost. He salvaged nonetheless ALL the 16mm inter-negatives of the films he made between 1966 and 1972 including his first six EROS films of the period 1966/1969 (see LB complete list of loops.)

LB's Dutch Archives

In1972, as the laws against explicit sex began to relax in the most advanced nations, LB moved his central operative offices and studios from Sweden/Denmark to a large mansion in Southern Holland. Here he organized his archives, now bursting with tons of original film footage, hundreds of inter-negatives, thousands of slides and lithographic materials for LB magazines, and with hundreds of press clippings from all over the world.

In the end of 1976, despite the worldwide success of a host of LB's sex ventures, he decided to get involved with other kinds of revolutionary activities in other parts of the world. Consequently, LB moved his precious archive, plus valuable paintings and personal items from his mansion of Southern Holland to a large, well-locked, secret cellar in an old building of the central, canal city of Amsterdam.

The flood

In February 1977, while LB was shooting some movies in London, his archive cellar was flooded, but since no one knew about that secret locations and the use of it, LB discovered the disaster when it was too late. Actually, he found out about it two months later from a Dutch newspaper clip with a b/w picture of several stolen items seized by Dutch police from an illegal art auction.

Among the seized items there was a famous modern painting of a nude woman lying on a motorway, which was previously hanging on the wall behind LB's desk in Southern Holland. As LB had stored his painting in the cellar among his archive materials and other valuables, he rushed to his secret vault and discovered the damage.

Salvaging whatever possible

Water and mud had flooded into the archive areas from an adjacent cellar belonging to other people through a breach in the dividing brick wall. Unknown thieves had obviously entered the LB cellar and stole all the paintings and valuables, which were placed above the crates with the film material. The materials weren't stolen but, since they had been submersed in the water for about 6 weeks, they were almost all lost.

Between April and May 1977, LB secretly salvaged only the 16mm inter-negatives of his first six EROS Films, plus a few inter-negatives of movies he shot in Denmark in 1971-1972. He lost about seventy of the 16mm inter-negatives made for all of his 80 "loops" and all of his 35mm materials, most of the transparencies, photographs and pictorials plus hundreds of press clippings about his life-adventure.

Losing it all!

As LB was in a hurry to move to California for other kinds of ventures, he entrusted the salvaged materials to his former wife living in Italy, who was still in very good terms with him.

Unfortunately, in 1980, while LB was in Central Africa for his second research on anthropology, she discovered that one of her girlfriends, who had been temporarily living with her as a guest, was a drug dealer. Fearing the worst, as pornography was still illegal in the Republic of Italy, she burned all the precious 16mm inter-negatives and everything else of LB with no delay. So, between flood and fire the whole Lasse Braun Archive was forever lost!

LB classic movies on DVD and Internet

In the mid Nineties, after having been busy for almost 20 years with other endeavors in many parts of the world, occasionally producing/directing some hardcore and soft-core video-features and miniseries, LB was asked by friends and fans to reintroduce his old classic movies of the Sixties and Seventies through DVD and the Internet.

For this purpose, from 1997 to the year 2000, LB recouped copies of his materials from fans, collectors, researchers and former theatrical or video distributors who had anyway no rights whatsoever to exploit the ancient LB movies through DVD and Internet.

As a result of these efforts, a first collection of LB Classics has been digitally re-mastered and authored in DVD form. Starting in the fall of the year 2001, these LB's products are getting available, solely as collectors' items, through this website and through a small number of participating retailers, along with new LB creations.

We regret that some of the ancient material is not in perfect technical condition, but we know that fans and collectors from all over the world are eager to have it anyway for its remarkable historical/cultural value. In addition, we're sure that everyone will enjoy the sexcapades and the beautiful girls with untrimmed pubic hair, filmed with the special flair of those revolutionary times.

The new LB archive

We are still receiving LB materials from fans and collectors to adjourn the new LB archive. Whoever still owns some old Lasse Braun Super 8mm movies or catalogues, slides and press clippings -- or even labs and distributors worldwide who still possess any LB 35mm prints or any 16mm/35mm inter-negatives -- are kindly requested to Contact Lasse Braun.
